Hot Hotel Deals

Wednesday, July 15, 2009 by Rudy Maxa.

In case you haven’t heard, the world’s hotels have slashed prices this summer in an effort to entice you to leave home. I’ve collected seven surprising bargains from Chicago to Hong Kong to whet your appetite.

Through September 7th in San Francisco, stay at any of Kimpton’s boutique hotels Thursday night through Sunday at rates starting at just $129 a night. Management will even throw in complimentary parking (no small benefit in downtown San Francisco) or a $30 dining credit. Since the company has 13 hotels in San Francisco, you should able to find one whose personality suits you.

In Santa Fe, the historic El Dorado Hotel & Spa will give you a free night for every two you stay, a savings of approximately $200. Click on “offers” at the hotel’s Website, or call 800-955-4455 and mention the “PROSTA” promotion.

If you happen to be headed to Hong Kong, check out The Minden, a boutique hotel known for its art collection just off Nathan Road in Kowloon. The hotel’s “Summer Holiday Package” offers rooms at a ridiculous $95 a night, including breakfast plus a $13 voucher good for drinks at the hotel bar. Internet is free, as are local phone calls, and a fruit basket will greet you upon arrival.

The polished Conrad Hilton has a menu of special deals as hot as the weather in southern Florida, including a free fourth night if you pay for three. The “Linger On” package includes a $100 food and beverage credit, and room rates begin at $106 per night. If you stay two nights on a weekend, your third night is complimentary. Rates for the “Linger on Weekend” deal begin at $129 a night. Details: 305-503-6500.

Through September 7, the elegant Fairmont Washington in the nation’s capital offers rooms starting at $209 (plus tax), including unlimited access to the hotel’s pool and free parking. The “Summer Splash” deal is available by calling 800-441-1414.

Chicago is at its best in the summer. The well-located and comfortable Affinia Chicago offers a Saturday special for families. The “Fun in the Sun at Navy Pier” package starts at $169 and includes a room, four tickets to the IMAX Theater at the Navy Pier, four tickets to ride the Ferris wheel, four tickets to ride the carousel, four tickets to play miniature golf and four tickets to ride the Wave Swinger.  he deal is good through September 7 and is available by calling 866-246-2203 and requesting the “PIER” offer.

And you know that Las Vegas is awash with cheap hotel rooms, but if the Strip isn’t your cup of tea, I’d recommend the Platinum Hotel, just a block off the strip. Every room is a suite—you’ll feel as if you’re staying in your own condominium rather than a hotel. A deal called the “Economic Stimulus” offers you a suite at $199 a night plus $100 in credit for food, drink or spa services—per night. Check out promotional specials at the hotel’s Website, or call 877-211-9211.
