I am just back from my glorious sojourn in England, but since this jet setter doesn’t like to put down roots for too long, I zipped up to New York’s Catskills Mountains for a weekend of bosky bliss. I have an 1840s-era schoolhouse tucked away in a vest pocket-sized town high in the hills, and, when not gardening wildly, I love nothing more than getting out and exploring.

Dear readers, my trip across the pond has drawn to an end, and I am headed back to our fair shores refreshed, renewed and reinvigorated. I lived in England as a child, so my frequent jaunts to Britannia return me to my jeunesse dorée and work wonders for the system when New York’s daily grind gets me down.

The past few days have been super spiffy: From a gorgeous picnic on the grass in the confines of Queen Mary’s gated garden within Regent’s Park (It’s amazing what you can purchase for ten pounds at Marks & Spencer’s food hall—why don’t American department stores offer glorious crab salad and Sauvignon Blanc in mid-size bottles for picnics?) to an amazing dinner at the very luxe Ritz hotel (the last time I dined here I sat just across from Maggie Thatcher, and I nearly fell into her lap on my way back from the loo).

Every month I spend a few days in Minneapolis working with the team at Delta Sky magazine, and my short-break sojourns in Minnesota have allowed me to explore this amazing city. I am a longtime New Yorker, so for me to confess my love for a Midwestern fly-over city might be thought of as sacrilege. Well, forget what Anna Wintour of Vogue might say about “small houses,” I think that Minneapolis sort of rocks.
