Time to Take Stock

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 by Jason Oliver Nixon.

Since I live to eat instead of eating to live, I have moments when I am tempted to rush to the diet aisle at my local pharmacy and stock up on powders, pills and potions that promise instant weight loss. But would I really look like the Adonis featured on the packaging after only two days? And what are the side effects since I can surely give up food, but doffing the wine isn’t likely to happen? I have no interest in having three-headed children down the road nor ending up in the ER for popping protein powder chased with Popov.

Happily, I have found less-Draconian measures to handle my, well, handles. And even more happily, this remedy involves a trip to the tropics and the cosseting pleasures of a delicious hotel in the center of Miami’s glittering South Beach. (If you assumed I was planning to visit a fat farm in some rural burg where you have to perform chores, you would be sorely mistaken and should go read another blog.)

Hence, perhaps you will join me as I attempt the Z-Fit: Personal Fitness Weekend that will take place September 25-27 at SoBe’s very chic, intimate Z Ocean Hotel. After checking in and savoring my last decadent meal, I shall awaken to the Z Ocean’s spa breakfast followed by a 90-minute beach workout with an instructor from Crunch Fitness. I will then attend a Q&A where I can address my fitness questions, such as the following: “Is a Bloody Mary considered a meal replacement for a tomato?” or “How many calories are burned by waking up?” From there, I shall probably head out for a night on the town after waking up from my disco nap and sipping a Bloody Mary. Sunday morning, I will perhaps hit the gym.

Or perhaps not.

I will certainly splish and splash about in the Z Ocean Hotel’s glass-bottomed pool, but I shall wear a T-shirt so that I am not mistaken for Shamu.

Here’s a stunning room where I shall lap up Bloody Marys and partake of disco naps after my “boot camp” on the beach.
