Many Bags Look Alike
Wednesday, May 06, 2009 by Liz Doyle.
We’ve all heard the warning from the omnipresent airport “voice” that lots of bags look alike. While checking the tag on every black Samsonite that passes on the carousel will save you the embarrassment of walking off with someone’s dirty laundry, it just takes too long.
I am always amazed at the lengths people go to in order to set their luggage apart from the crowd. Actually, I take that back—there is little that surprises me. On a recent return flight from Florida, someone had Bedazzled their name on their bag. Add pom poms, gift-wrap ribbon and multi-colored straps, and the carousel looked like one giant balloon short of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.
Luckily, retailers are helping us with bag recognition (and saving us from the embarrassment of self-adornment) by rolling out luggage tags in bright colors, cheeky phrases and vintage pictures.
A nod to the old-school jet set with vintage images and phrases such as, “We all have our baggage,” or my personal favorite, “You be Thelma, I’ll be Louise.” Anne Taintor, $8, amazon.com

Unless you typically pick up your caddy at the airport, ward off any willing applicants.
